 Pittsburg, Kansas | I don't know if this is the situation in this case, but sometimes one of the differences in silicone can be the flowability or fluidity of the caulk. In other words I have found some to be thinner than others. So it could be just that one is easier to work with for a particular job rather than the life of it.
But that is just a guess. Cant recall specifically using the two you mention side by side.
