I have a neighbor who wants his rolled before he plants , and no not all the stalks are completely flat and he has to plant against bent ones at times , Doesn't look like it is ever an issue with planting or harvest . As far as rolling notil ground after planting , i think it helps a little with better seed to soil contact .
