Subject: RE: why is the pier closed at Naples?

North Central Indiana
It’s still damaged out there a ways. It had been partially opened and when we get back down there in a few weeks I’ll know if it’s open any during the daytime now. Long story short, hurricane Ian damaged it in 2022. They had big plans to put a new pier in with a bigger, really nice lookout at the end of it. It was mostly approved but before they got going the locals decided they didn’t like the new plans after all. So instead of starting on it last December they fought over the design until a new plan was approved in early October. They’ll be started on it sometime this winter it sounds like.

As an aside, the hurricane damage from Ian was wildly extensive. There are areas that are still untouched from that hurricane in 2022 and they had 2 decent ones this year as well. Fort Myers beach and Bonita beach are still rough from 2022. Vanderbilt beach is making good progress. Naples beach and the pier are slowly making progress but they are doing infrastructure upgrades to minimize future hurricane damage in that area
