NW Iowa | Shade has it figured out. A laminectomy is a removal of bone to make room for a pinched or compressed nerve. It can be a small grinding away of some bone or it can be a complete removal of the back of the vertebrae if the entire spinal cord is being compressed. I had the back of c3,4,5 removed in the neck to relieve tingling and pin pricks in the arms. I also had a laminectomy done on L 1,2,3,4 & 5 to get feeling back in my feet. That was also what I would call a decompression. Recovery from the neck surgery took awhile. Recovery from the lower back surgery was a breeze. | |
