Cereal Rye as a cover vs Cereal Rye as a crop have two distinct seeding rates and vastly different affects on the soil conditions. As a cover you shouldn't be much over 40 lbs per acre. Rye as a crop should be at least triple that seeding rate. Also compared to wheat, rye kills much easier with glyphosate.

In your comparisons did you do multiple years raising both species in the same years to get a good look at their performance? Or are you comparing year over year with say Rye one year vs wheat in another year?

Plus location is important any time we talk cropping systems.
