I would assume the water would get too hot. Whenever I had Tstat issues just had a 250W heatlamp bulb in the bottom. Easy to wire in if you dont have an outlet in the bottom of the waterer.
Now that I have new waterers dont have an issue. Went to Ecofounts. Barely need heat in those if you have enough head drinking out of it.
