NW MN | WCAS is one of the most successful locally owned cooperatives in the country, As I see it a combination of things are driving this merger. Because of its success it brings a very high value, receiving 5x your local equity and being taxed as a capital gain is pretty attractive in today’s world. On a purely financial level it’s a no brainer. Even losing some competitiveness will pale in comparison to the payout if you have been a loyal patron. My main concern is put through. We have a short season up here and it takes a lot of freight at harvest. I’m not sure if CHS has the management ability on the local level to get that done. | |
