Osakis,Mn | 30 years ago I was diagnosed by a MRI with a bulging disc on L5/S1 with sciatica pain and some surface numbness on my thigh. I initially had a cortisone shot in that area to diminish the inflammation, helped for a few months, but pain came back. Someone suggested that I visit a nearby chiropractor that had a decompression table. If I recall I had about 20 sessions over the course of 3 months, it helped that it was in the wintertime, so it didn’t interfere a lot with the farm work. It was very successful, got rid of the sciatica pain and over the course of a year the feeling came back to the surface of my thigh. I still have a little numbness in a couple of toes, but doctor said that will always be because I let it go too long before seeking out treatment.
I have learned to lift the correct way, with legs and not only back. A physical therapist once told me good advice; “Look up when you lift.” Also have restricted myself to lifting no more than 50# at a time, if it’s heavier I find help or a different way to move it. | |
