NW IL | We've been organic since 2008 and that's never been a huge issue for us. Every once in a while we'll have a field hit, but often it's just one of several factors in a reduced stand.
A couple things. Make sure you terminate all green material at least 2 weeks before planting.
Plant when soil temps are at or above 55F to get the corn growing fast.
Look at the larva calendars.
Rotate if possible. Look into somelike a rape or camlina cover crop before corn, and avoid corn on corn.
Also, there are a few places suggesting a micronutrient seed treatment helps with seed insect pressure. | |
