East of Broken Bow | X6. 'Here' we have a mechanic that when he isn't sure what to blame for a failure, he blames ethanol. My brother had an old (like mid 1970s truck) that wouldn't run right. When he couldn't fix the problem, he asked my brother if he used ethanol fuel. Brother said yes, and he said that is what caused the problem, and the ethanol likely damaged something in his engine or carburetor. He took it to another mechanic who found the ignition points were burned. Replaced them, and it still runs great. Apparently ethanol is so horrible it can even scab the ignition points under the distributor cap.
I currently have as my beat around vehicle, an old Dodge Durango. Has about 270,000 miles on it, ran e-85 most of its life, and still doesn't burn a half a quart of oil in between changes.
I will admit that when I started running e-15 in my older pickup it didn't run real well, plugged the fuel filter with all the gunk it dislodged from somewhere. Actually plugged one right away, a second in about a month. No problems after that. | |
