| I raised organic corn/soybeans for a few years. Only did a corn/bean rotation, and never really had insect pressure bad enough to cause concern. That said, speaking of diatomaceous earth, I wonder if you could apply it like a seed treatment. May not be enough to do the job, though. But if you could apply it with an in furrow system like you have, that may be the ticket. I just don't know what kind of "spread" around the seed you'll get, or the rate. No clue if they would have any ideas, but Midwest BioAg deals in organic fertilizers (or they used to), maybe they have a solution. Saw another person commented on planting date, I was always taught to plant late with organic, maybe that's why I didn't have many insect issues. With organic, you want that seed to emerge as fast as possible, so you can better control weeds mechanically. If it just sits there awhile, you'd have some issues with weeds. | |
