Ohio | There's a lot that goes into consideration. Most days I do pretty much everything by myself. That is part of the reason I have a semi. Local elevator is roughly 6-10 miles from majority of my fields. I can generally turn a load with the semi in about 40-45 minutes. With a tractor and wagons I'd be adding closer to an hour onto that trip. I paid close to $30k for a day cab tractor and Wilson hopper 7 years ago. If I tried to buy a pair of wagons that could haul 1000 bushels with lights, brakes, and tarps I'd probably have close to $25k into them. I also don't really have an extra tractor to pull wagons. The tractor that is big enough to pull large wagons is also the one I need to pull the grain drill. I'd need to remove the duals to haul to the local elevator, so there would be extra work putting the duals on and off when I go to plant wheat and then switch back to haul corn.
With all of that being said I have been looking for one good wagon that could safely be pulled behind a pickup truck. On the few days when I do have a helper (my wife) she would be able to at least keep some grain moving so that I wouldn't be constantly starting and stopping the combine. | |
