:Pirelli sold the Indian business of Ceat to RPG Group in 1981. In 2010, Ceat Ltd. bought the rights to the Ceat brand name from Pirelli SpA for 9 million euros. The deal included a transition period where Pirelli had the exclusive license to use the brand until January 1, 2013.
The original Ceat was an independent Italian cable and tire maker that expanded to India in the late 1950s. The company was originally incorporated as CEAT Tyres of India Limited in 1958, and its name was changed to CEAT.
In 1981, the company failed in Italy and Pirelli purchased the right to the CEAT name, which it sold to RPG Group in 1983. In 1982, RPG Group acquired the company, and in 1990, the company was renamed as CEAT. | |
