Eaton doesn't make an automatic transmission. They do make manual transmissions that are shifted with a clutch controlled by a computer, actuated by servos.

I believe if you have a Volvo or a Mack, you have a different transmission than an Eaton. They operate similarly. We have about a dozen trucks at work with auto shift manual transmissions. The failure/repair costs are much more than a conventional manual transmission. Allison makes automatic transmissions.

Correct.

I think most of the posters know that an "Auto shift" manual isn't a true "Automatic", they just don't bother using the proper terminology. Probably a few that don't know the difference, and would benefit from a little research.

Personally, I have zero desire to own an autoshift transmission. I've seen some really nasty repair bills from them, just seems like something else to potentially cause issues. Seems like most folks on here want them because the younger help can't shift a manual, and the older help have bad knees.

I guess I'm old fashioned, but if you can't properly shift a manual transmission in a heavy truck, you aren't a truck driver yet. It's not difficult to learn, IMO.

Learn to float shift a manual, and needing an auto shift because of bad knees isn't much of a thing either, IMO. You only use the clutch to start off.

But everyone has to know what works for them.
