It’s very hard to see when it’s small but then we’ll get a warmup thru the winter or early spring and bam! It’s nice and green. Looks like those roots are doing its job well. What’s going on below the surface is all that matters with a cover/cash crop game plan. Keep something alive in the soil or Mother Nature will and it’s usually weeds
