Your concern is well founded. I've had 2 Schumacher battery tenders that for some reason start leaking enough energy to deplete my tractor batteries in a couple days if they weren't plugged in. They were fine for several years and still work if plugged in they just leak now. I've bought NOCO 2 amp maintainers to replace them.
