They have tried and have done this. That's what trade agreements are. That's what free trade is.

There aren't monstrous tariffs across the globe on all US products. Most of them are targeted tariffs to protect a specific industry in the country that implements them. You'd have to look at specifics to see if they've caused good or harm in those situations.

Global average tariff rate of us goods is like 2%. Not sure it's even worth discussing before all this nonsense.

The conservative talking point is that if we have a trade deficit it's the same thing as being tariffed.
